Build the Purrfect Cat House & Bed

Build the Purrfect Cat House & Bed

Your cat deserves a cosy, eco-friendly hideaway that is as stylish as it is functional. Building a cat house and bed using sustainable materials is a great way to create a comfy retreat for your feline friend while keeping your home eco-conscious. Follow these easy steps to build the purrfect cat house and bed, and have fun in the process!

Components:

  • Cardboard boxes (or reclaimed wood for a sturdier option)
  • Non-toxic, eco-friendly paint or wood finish
  • Recycled felt or fabric for cushioning
  • Hot glue gun or eco-friendly adhesive
  • Scissors or a utility knife
  • Organic catnip or toys for personalisation

Steps:

  1. Design Your Cat House
Start by deciding whether you want a simple cardboard cat house or something more durable, like a wood-based one. If you're going for cardboard, repurpose old boxes by cutting out windows, doorways, and fun shapes. For a wooden house, use reclaimed wood pieces for a sturdy frame.

  2. Shape and Build the Structure
Assemble the base and walls by using your adhesive or hot glue. If you’re working with wood, secure the pieces with eco-friendly nails or screws. Ensure there are no sharp edges to keep your cat safe. Create a soft, rounded roof or add fun decorative elements like a chimney or paw-shaped cut-outs.

  3. Add Eco-Friendly Cushioning
Cut your recycled felt or fabric into a shape that fits perfectly inside your cat house. Use the hot glue to secure the fabric in place or simply place it loosely inside so it can be removed and washed. This is where your cat will curl up in comfort!

  4. Customise & Paint
Use non-toxic, eco-friendly paint or wood stain to decorate the outside of the house. Add bright colours or playful patterns that match your home decor or your cat's personality. Let it dry completely before moving on.

  5. Personalise with Cat Toys & Catnip
Add your cat’s favourite toys, or sprinkle organic catnip inside the house to make it extra inviting. You can also hang small, eco-friendly toys from the ceiling of the house for added fun.

Personalise & Enjoy:

Now that your eco-friendly cat house and bed is ready, it’s time to let your cat explore and enjoy their new hideaway. Don’t forget to capture some adorable photos of your cat in their new, custom-made space! Your cat will love their new eco-friendly sanctuary.
